GPS speed camera detectors contain a database of speed camera locations co-ordinates, these databases can also include accident blackspot locations, schools, congestion charging zones and user defined locations. GPS speed camera detectors can also include such information as road speed limits, road number, distance to camera in metres/seconds. How does a GPS speed camera detector work?

The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a navigation system consisting of a network of 24 orbiting satellites. A GPS speed camera detector will then lock onto three or more GPS satellites to indicate the exact location of your vehicle. Using a database of GPS co-ordinates of speed cameras and in many case speed limits which is updateable.
