Cobra iRadar by Snooper explained

Turn your Apple or Android Smartphone into a speed camera detector using the Cobra iRadar from Snooper. As well as an App to detect all fixed speed cameras (within the Snooper AURA speed camera database) you also get a radar and laser speed camera detector which is installed under the bonnet of your vehicle. The phone App connects to the radar and laser detection via Bluetooth. The Apps can be downloaded from the Apple Store or Android Market Place.

There are TWO different versions of the Cobra iRadar these are:

‣iRadar SR120R EU for Apple iPod and Apple iPhone
‣iRadar SR125R EU for Android Smartphones

iRadar Hardwire installation

There is no car charger available to purchase for the iRadar device. You must hardwire it into your vehicles power supply/battery.

You must also hardwire the Cobra iRadar into your vehicle to use the radar and laser detection devices.

There is a feature whereby the Cobra iRadar will turn on when you start your vehicles engine. For this to work you will need to hard wire the power source to your cars battery. We recommend that you get the installation done by a professional.

You must pay subscription charges to use the GPS database of speed camera locations (see below) but you can use the radar and laser detector without paying anything extra.

Compatible phones:

The Cobra iRadar is compatible with the following mobile phones:

iPod:

3 and 4.

iPhone:

3GS, 4, 4S, 5 and 6.

Android Smart Phones:

Android 2.2 and above including Froyo, Gingerbread, Honeycomb, Ice-cream sandwich and Jelly Bean Android OS.

iRadar alerts

The screen of your phone will display your journey using the in-built map view. On approach to a speed trap or accident blackspot location found in the GPS database the Snooper iRadar provides spoken voice alerts and on screen alerts. The voice alerts confirm a camera location e.g. Gatso, Truvelo but it will only say "Photo Enforcement" and High Risk Zones will be warned to as the voice alert "Risk Zone".

When approaching a radar or laser based device the iRadar offers an audible tone alert and the screen confirms the type of band/frequency of the device too e.g. K band.

When you spot a mobile speed camera location not on the AURA speed camera database you can instantly press a button within the App to send the location details to other road users of the Cobra iRadar in a virtual community.

Sensitivity alerts

You can program the Cobra iRadar to either City Mode or Motorway Mode. City Mode makes the alerts less sensitive so you are not alerted to shop doorway sensors and burglar alarms. On the Motorway when you are driving faster you will want more sensitive alerts so when Motorway Mode is set to ON you will get more sensitive warnings.

Another great feature of the Cobra iRadar is overspeed warnings. When used you simply set the speed limit and if you drive faster than that set speed limit you receive a warning. This is done via GPS so it will provide a more accurate speedometer than that in your vehicle.

Radar and Laser frequencies used by the Cobra iRadar

The radar and laser detection device will detect from long distances away from your vehicle giving you warning to adjust your speed if needed and it will detect the following radar and laser bands:
‣ X
‣ K
‣ Ka
‣ Laser frequencies

You can also switch selected radar and laser frequencies off to tailor the alerts to your driving style/requirements.

Snooper AURA LIVE speed camera database

Like all Snooper speed camera detectors and sat navs, the Snooper iRadar gets its speed camera locations via the Snooper AURA speed camera database. Updated daily, the AURA database can be downloaded to the device via a GPRS as you are driving. It's important your phone is connected via GPRS to the iRadar device, as the iRadar GPS database cannot be downloaded to the device before traveling in preparation for your journey.

Countries included in the AURA database are: UK and Ireland, Germany, Holland, Belgium, France, Spain, Portugal, Switzerland, Italy, Austria, Luxembourg, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Poland, Romania, Russia, USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa.

The AURA speed camera database is updated LIVE using your phones connectivity to the GPRS network. You cannot download the database at home and use the Cobra iRadar on your journey without connecting to the GPRS network, as this Snooper device requires permanent connection to the GPRS network.

Detectable Speed Cameras

Utilising GPS, radar and laser detection the iRadar will provide advanced warnings to the following fixed and mobile speed cameras:

Fixed cameras:

Gatso
Truvelo
Truvelo D-Cam
SPECS
HADECS 3 (identified on the iRadar as a GATSO camera)
SpeedSpike
Peek
SpeedCurb
Watchman

Mobile cameras:

Radar based devices including live Gatso and radar based red light cameras
Laser based devices

Red Light cameras

Mobile speed camerasRed light camera locations aren't included within the Snooper AURA speed camera database of GPS locations, which the iRadar uses. However, thanks to the fact that the iRadar includes a radar detector, if the red light enforcement camera is using radar technology the iRadar will provides alerts to these too.

Some red light cameras also double as a speed camera too. Systems manufactured by Gatsometer, the company behind the infamous Gatso speed camera are almost certainly serving a dual purpose. To read more about traffic light (speed) cameras click here.
