GPS speed camera detectors

Speed camera detectors from manufacturers such as Origin technologies, RoadPilot and Snooper use satellite technology. These GPS speed camera detectors compare the location of your vehicle in relation to each speed camera site.

These GPS systems then sound a tone or provide voice alerts when there is a speed camera in the road ahead. Furthermore the GPS technology enhances the feature of the speed camera detector. For example, the speed limit of the road and an accurate speedometer are viewable on screen. Speed-sensitive warnings can also be set to alert only when driving above the speed limit. Laser and radar speed camera detection

Laser and radar detectors can be bought to detect mobile speed traps. The GPS speed camera detectors often have laser built into the system or can be bought as an optional extra. These systems can be bought without purchasing the GPS system though we recommend buying a GPS speed camera detector as the detection capabilities are much greater.

Features

Warning range
The warning range of the speed camera detectors ranges from 1000yards (Snooper Pantera) to 2,000 metres (Pogo Alert Plus). The warning range is user-definable. For example, the Pogo Alert Plus can be set to warn up to 2,000 metres in advance. The Pogo Alert Plus is the only speed camera detector that provides a countdown in seconds and metres.

Speed sensitive warnings
The satellite technology in the more expensive speed camera detectors calculates your speed relative to the speed limit of the road. When selected, this feature only provides warning when above the speed limit. An alert will not sound in a traffic jam and when at or below the speed limit. Detectors with this feature include the Pogo Alert Plus and the Snooper Sapphire.

Voice alerts
The Snooper Pantera, Pogo Alert Plus, Snooper 3ZERO and Novus Alpha can be set to sound voice alerts (“Gatso,” “Truvelo,” “SPECS,” for example). The volume of the alert can also be set by the user.

Speed cameras
Utilising the GPS database of speed camera information the type of speed camera in the road ahead is indicated with, for example, the Snooper Sapphire and Pogo Alert Plus. The Pogo Alert Plus, Novus Alpha and Snooper Lynx also display the road name/number. Warnings include “Gatso,” “Truvelo,” and “SPECS.”
