Radar and Laser Speed Camera Detector Comparison Table

Compare the differences between the radar and laser speed camera detector range.

You can see which detectors use different technology such as laser and radar to detect fixed speed cameras and mobile laser and radar speed guns. A further explanation to some of the features can be found below the table.

In addition if you'd like to see which speed cameras are detectable via the different devices in the table below, click here or scroll down to the 'Detectable Speed Cameras with a Radar and Laser detector' section further down this page.

If you are looking for a speed camera detector with a GPS speed camera database and speed limit alerts, please see the GPS speed camera detector comparison table.

Comparison Table Features Explained

City mode: The City Mode will reduce false alerts from shop doorway sensors and burglar alarms that are usually found in City centres.

Threat specific alerts: Each time you detect a laser of radar device (i.e. speed cameras) the speed camer detector will tell you which band(s) of signals are being detected.

Speed limit alerts: As well as receiving alerts to speed limits at actual speed camera locations found within the units GPS database, devices with this feature include them for ALL roads whether a speed camera is present or not.

Detects behind vehicle: Only the Valentine One G3 has 360 degree protection. This speed camera detector system will warn you to radar and laser speed measurement devices in front and those measuring from the rear of your vehicle.

Sat nav connectivity: The Snooper Laser Pod will attach to the sat nav be mounting onto the back of your sat nav using the supplied mounting pad.

Detectable Speed Cameras with a Radar and Laser detector

Gatso speed cameras

Gatso use radar technology which is detectable using a radar detector. Please note: Not all Gatso cameras are LIVE, in other words some are just dummy cameras without any camera equipment inside. If your radar detector remains silent on approach and when driving past a Gatso camera, the camera is a dud or isn't currently working.

Truvelo speed cameras

Truvelo and the newer digital Truvelo D-Cams speed cameras are undetectable when using a radar or laser detector only. This is because these speed cameras use loops embedded in the road. Drive too fast over them and the camera is triggered. If you want to receive alerts to Truvelo cameras you need to buy a GPS based speed camera detector.

SPECS average speed cameras

SPECS average speed cameras are undetectable when using a radar or laser detector only. This is because these speed cameras merely take a photo of your vehicle at point A and then sometime down the road, take a second photo at point B. Drive too fast between the two or more points and you risk getting a speeding fine. If you want to receive alerts to Truvelo cameras you need to buy a GPS based speed camera detector.

VECTOR speed cameras

VECTOR average speed cameras are undetectable when using a radar or laser detector only.

HADECS speed cameras

It is reported that some HADECS speed cameras systems use dual radar for the detection of speeding offences. It is therefore to receive alerts to these cameras using a radar detector. For HADECS cameras not using radar technology, you would need to buy a GPS based speed camera detector to receive alerts.

Mobile speed cameras

Mobile speed cameras operate using either radar or laser technology. Both the Valentine One G3 or the Beltronics Pro RX65i use radar and laser technology to detect these cameras. The Snooper Laser Pod is a laser only device.

Traffic Light cameras

The majority of traffic light cameras are manufactured by the same company behind the fixed Gatso speed camera. Therefore it is possible to receive alerts to red light cameras using a radar detector when they are being used for both jumping a red traffic light AND to catch speeding motorists. If the traffic light camera is being used exclusively to catching motorists driving through on a red traffic light it will most likely be using embedded loops in the roa, which are undetectable to a radar detector.

SpeedCurb cameras

SpeedCurb speed cameras are undetectable when using a radar or laser detector only. This is because these speed cameras use loops embedded in the road. Drive too fast over them and the camera is triggered. If you want to receive alerts to SpeedCurb cameras you need to buy a GPS based speed camera detector.

Peek cameras

Peek speed cameras are undetectable when using a radar or laser detector only. This is because these speed cameras use loops embedded in the road. Drive too fast over them and the camera is triggered. If you want to receive alerts to Peek cameras you need to buy a GPS based speed camera detector.
