Gatso Speed Camera on A55, Penmaenbach (30mph)
This Gatso speed camera is located on A55 near Penmaenbach in Conwy, monitoring both directions traffic with a 30mph speed limit.
There are warning signs on the 40mph warning about the speed cameras coming up in the 30mph zone. There is a big variable roadside information sign which varies but usually says 'Speed Cameras'. The cameras are bright yellow and reflective. The first one is only 100 yards inside the 30mph zone. The next (when some people may have started to speed up) is about 200yards further on and although reflective yellow is tucked away behind the tunnel portal. This is a twisty piece of road around Penmaenbach Headland that before the building of the tunnel used to be 2 way. There were two lanes but this has had to be reduced to one while the railway sorts out problems with the ironwork on the tunnel entrance below.
